This is the mildest of the 3 forms and represents 10-20% of the general population. It presents itself as a small gap in one or more of the vertebrae of the spine. This is shown sometimes on the newborns skin close to the defect either as an abnormal tuft of hair, a collection of fat or a small dimple or birthmark.
This form can go unnoticed unless seen in an x-ray or another form of imaging.
