There are many inclusion strategies that can be put in place for the child and depending on factors such as length of time child is in class, their likes/dislikes and skills already achieved, the teacher and EA can work as a team to increase cognitive development.

- If student is in a wheelchair, place yourself at their eye level when talking to them
- Work in short periods of time with breaks
- Record to enhance memory
- Shorter assignments that fit their skill level
- Sit in front of class or near teacher’s desk-less distractions
- Provide concrete experiences, such as using puppets to show the understanding of feelings
- Introduce actions before showing them allowing them longer to process
- Make a pattern for routine work while at school, this will help the student develop a procedural memory for performing tasks
- Provide table style desks with adequate leg space for students in wheelchair
- Use easels, portable reading racks or adjustable desks to facilitate reading
- Use simple and understandable language during reading assignments for help with comprehension
