This is a rare form of Spina Bifida where the meninges around the spinal cord push out through the opening in the vertebrae. In this case the spinal cord develops normally so the meninges can be removed through surgery with little or no damage to the nerves.
This form often has no symptoms, but has the highest rate of complications. Fluid can leak out through the unfused portion of the spinal cord causing a sac like bulge.
